Rolando Mario G Villonco is the chairman of Siguion Reyna, Montecillo & Ongsiako, and heads its employment law practice, which is widely regarded as being among the best in the Philippines by various international publications. Rolando, or ‘Opap,’ has more than three decades of legal practice and during that time he has provided high-level counsel on matters involving many employer–employee issues, often resulting from the after-effects of an international transaction, such as a merger or spin-off, a multi-country outsourcing arrangement or a redundancy arising from a reorganisation.

Opap is much sought-after as a negotiator for collective bargaining negotiations, and in that capacity has represented the Philippines’ largest telecommunications company, its largest electric company, and several of its largest financial services firms, among many other of the top 500 corporations in the Philippines that he and the firm count as long-standing clients. He has also handled corporate law matters for these same clients, and sits on the board of directors for several Philippine subsidiaries of German companies.

He is listed in the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific as one of the Philippines’ ‘leading individuals’ in employment law. Opap studied law in the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law, and was admitted to the Bar in 1978.
