Bláthnaid is a senior associate in the employment, pensions and benefits group at Matheson and specialises in employment law.

Having qualified and practised in one of the leading employee and trade union law firms in the country, Bláthnaid has unique experience advising on both sides of the employment relationship and on trade union law for trade unions. She advises on all aspects of employment and equality law, both in contentious and non-contentious matters.  This work compromises of advising employers on the termination of the employment relationship, including the redundancy process, general compliance with working time structures, internal investigations, grievances, disciplinary processes and procedures, as well as the preparation and review of employment contracts, company handbooks, and other ancillary human resource policies to ensure compliance with Irish employment legislation and best practice. She also has experience in representing clients before the Workplace Relations Commission, the Rights Commissioner, Labour Court, Employment Appeals Tribunal and the Equality Tribunal, as well as advising clients in respect of injunction applications.

She has advised a varied of clients, including large national and multinational organisations, concerning commercial restructuring and the process of employees transferring pursuant to the TUPE regulations.

This includes advising on potential industrial action, collective bargaining issues and the applicability of legislation and Labour Court decisions on trade unions. She has also advised on the impact of collective agreements and works council agreements in the workplace.
