Matthias Karl has a wealth of experience in the area of German and European antitrust law. Inter alia, he has a clear focus on all aspects of antitrust compliance work, and has handled several of the high-profile leniency cases in the chemical industry for Evonik. Additionally, Dr Karl has broad experience in compliance management and training for companies especially in the automotive and in the consumer goods sectors. He also regularly advises on internet-related distribution law issues. A key area of work in recent years was the coordination of multi-state investigations in the auto parts industry.

Dr Karl studied at the universities of Munich, Hamburg (Dr iur, 1996) and Ann Arbor, Michigan (LLM, 1995). He was admitted in 1995, and has been a partner at Gleiss Lutz since 2000. In 1996, he was also admitted as attorney-at-law in New York State. He is a member of the German Association for the Study of Antitrust Law, and a member of the American Bar Association and of the International Bar Association as well as the German Bar Association.
