Basheema is a barrister who joined Uteem Chambers (previously Erriah & Uteem Chambers) in February 2007. She has been advising clients on major financing transactions for various projects, including a satellite and telecommunications project and the setting up of Mauritius investment vehicles for investment in Africa. Basheema also advises clients on Mauritian aspects of merger and restrictive business practice issues, restructuring companies, winding-up and liquidation of such companies, securitisation, data protection law issues, and on migration of foreign companies to Mauritius. She has advised clients in relation to a cross-border takeover and its consequences for the Mauritian market in relation to the automotive sector. She has also been involved in the listing of expert funds on the stock exchange of Mauritius.
Basheema holds an LLB from the University of Mauritius and passed the Mauritius Council of Legal Education’s vocational examinations for barristers in 2005. She has been practising as a barrister at the Mauritian Bar since 2007. Basheema also holds a Diplôme Supérieur d’Études Françaises Modernes, option littérature avec mention Très Bien from Alliance Française.
