Jose Luiz H de Mello has been a partner at Pinheiro Neto’s São Paulo office since 2005 and participates in the firm’s steering committee. He specialises in banking and corporate finance, including finance transactions, regulatory matters and debt and equity offerings, and represents clients in merger and acquisition transactions. José Luiz practised in New York in the foreign lawyers programme of Sullivan & Cromwell (2000–2001). He is listed as recommended lawyer in a number of specialised publications, including Chambers & Partners (banking and finance, and capital markets), Who’s Who Legal (banking), The Legal 500 (banking and finance, capital markets, and corporate/M&A), IFLR 1000 (banking and finance – leading lawyer), and was selected by Latin Lawyer as one of ‘Brazil’s young stars’ in a survey at the end of 2007. José Luiz holds an LLM from the University of Chicago (2000), an Executive MBA in finance from Insper-SP (1997), an LLB from PUC-SP (1994) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from EAESP-FGV (1994). He is a member of the Corporate Governance Committee – Financial Institutions of IBGC and of the Technical Committee of the Investors’ Relations Brazilian Institute (IBRI). José Luiz is a member of the Brazilian Bar and of the New York State Bar.
