Michael Brems is counsel based in the Cologne office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.
Mr Brems’ practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, and employment law matters. His experience in employment law includes service and employment contracts with senior management (including their termination and settlement), workforce restructurings, pension matters, bonus and incentive plans, and works council issues. He is experienced in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions and employment law matters in an international context.
Chambers Global distinguished Mr Brems as a leading corporate and M&A lawyer in Germany. He is co-author of an English-language commentary on German takeover law and regularly lectures on joint ventures.
Mr Brems joined the firm in 1996 and became counsel in 2004. He received an LLM degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1998 and a doctorate in law (Dr iur), summa cum laude, from the University of Würzburg in 1995. He passed the second state examination in the state of Bavaria in 1996 and the first state examination at the University of Würzburg in 1992.
He has also worked in the firm’s Frankfurt and New York offices. Mr Brems is a member of the Cologne and New York Bars.
