Mr Acosta-Chin obtained his law degree from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in 2008. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

Mr Acosta-Chin joined Santamarina y Steta, SC in 2009, and during that time his professional practice has been focused on corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, data privacy matters, the prevention of money laundering, e-commerce and foreign investment.

Mr Acosta-Chin’s practice focuses on data privacy matters, and he advises clients on analyses of the implications of, and actions necessary for compliance with, data privacy legislation, including the drafting and filing of writs with respect to official communications issued by the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data regarding its surveillance and enforcement authorities, mapping of the processing of personal data throughout different departments or business units of an organisation, drafting the required documents to comply with the law, coordinating efforts to be in compliance with the law, advising on breaches of personal data confidentiality obligations, and implementing cross-border contingency plans to mitigate and prevent security breaches, among other matters.
