Akusa Batwala is a partner at ASAR – Al Ruwayeh & Partners. She currently practises in the areas of commercial and corporate law. She has also been extensively involved in public-private partnership projects and her experience with PPP projects includes the groundbreaking Az Zour North IWPP Phase 1, in which she was involved in advising the Ministry of Electricity and Water and the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (formerly the Partnership Technical Bureau) as part of the consortium comprising the Transaction Advisor on the process of the procurement and development of Phase 1 of this IWPP Project.

Akusa is currently involved in a number of ongoing government infrastructure projects, the majority of which are being procured under the PPP model. These include the Al Khairan Water and Power Project (IWPP) Phase 1, the Al Abdaliyah Integrated Solar Combined Cycle Independent Power Project, the Extension of the Sulaibiya Wastewater Project, the Umm Al Hayman Waste Water Project and the Kabd Municipality Solid Waste Project. She has advised the government, sponsors, investors and lenders in various projects. In doing so, she has been involved in the drafting and negotiation of various project documents, including concession agreements, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, shareholder agreements and project finance agreements.
