José Valecillos is a partner at the tax group of D’Empaire, advising major corporations on a broad range of tax matters. Jose has provided tax advice in many of the recent M&A transactions recently taking place in Venezuela. Before joining D’Empaire in 2012, José was an associate at Deloitte from 2008 to 2012.

He obtained his law degree at Universidad Metropolitana (2007) and received an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center (2014).

José is currently ranked as a “Next Generation Lawyer” by The Legal 500 (2018 Venezuela Tax Rankings).  He is also the Venezuelan representative of the Young IFA Network (YIN) of the International Fiscal Association’s Venezuelan Branch. He often participates as a speaker in tax forums and has published articles on tax matters such as the Venezuelan taxation of hybrids.

José’s recent representations on tax matters include, Maurel & Prom, in the acquisition of 40% of a Venezuela oil joint venture from Shell; Pirelli, in the sale of its Venezuelan subsidiary Pirelli de Venezuela; Liberty Mutual, in the proposed sale of its Venezuelan subsidiary Seguros Caracas de Liberty Mutual; American Airlines, in several Venezuelan tax matters.
