Patrick Long is an Associate in the MinterEllison Tax Controversy team, specialising in providing tax litigation and tax dispute resolution services. Prior to entering private practice, Patrick worked in the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for close to eight years, the majority as a lawyer in the ATO's Dispute Resolution (in-house legal) team. Patrick's experience includes representing the Commissioner and instructing counsel before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal in tax appeal cases, as well as representing the Commissioner in tax recovery and insolvency proceedings in federal and local courts. Patrick's earlier work at the ATO included assisting taxpayers with information regarding ATO compliance measures, as well as undertaking reviews in respect of undeclared business income. Patrick continues his practice in acting for the ATO through both tax appeal and tax recovery matters referred to MinterEllison by the ATO, as well as bringing a unique insight to managing a client's relationship with the ATO.
