Margaret D’Souza is a graduate from the National Law School of India University. She was admitted to the Bar in 1994 and was a partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. (now known as Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas) until July 2006. Her work experience in Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co encompassed corporate work and litigation and arbitration matters. Some of her earlier corporate transactions included setting up the Tata Mutual Fund and the Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund. In 2006, she joined Standard Chartered Bank, Mumbai as Senior Legal Counsel-Litigation and, inter alia, assisted the bank implement a litigation management model spanning the litigation of the bank worldwide. She joined Udwadia & Udeshi (now known as Udwadia & Co) as a partner in March 2008, attending to corporate transactions and litigation and arbitration matters. In July 2014, she joined the legal department of Suzlon Energy Limited, a leading wind turbine manufacturer, focusing on the legal issues of the corporate finance department, and in 2019, took an active role in the financial restructuring of Suzlon Energy Limited. In March 2020, along with Leena Bhat, founded Acclivus Law Partners, a full service law firm with offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru, with special focus on banking and finance and financial restructuring. The firm has various strategic advisers and experienced consultants on board, and offers an end-to-end solution, including advisory, structuring, consulting, strategy, execution and closure and litigation in respect of mergers and acquisitions, private equity, structured finance, NPA/ distressed assets or any form of restructuring.
