Antonio Murta Filho is a founding partner of Murta Goyanes and state attorney of Rio de Janeiro, with more than 20 years of experience working at renowned law firms specialising in intellectual property. His main practice areas include trademarks, unfair competition, dispute resolution and litigation.
Mr Murta Filho’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Laws degree from Rio de Janeiro State University and a postgraduate degree in IP law from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London, in the United Kingdom. He will finish a master’s degree in IP law at the University of Lisbon School of Law in 2022. He was an associate professor from 1993 to 2009 in commercial law and IP law at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC Rio). He also acted as lecturer, from 1999 to 2009, in the IP law postgraduate course at PUC Rio. In 2003, he coordinated the course of specialisation on IP law for judges of the Federal Circuit, lecturing in the trademark rights class of the same course. He has acted as a technical expert appointed by Brazilian courts, at both federal and state level, for cases dealing with IP matters. He is a member of the board of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property; a member of International Trademark Association’s parallel imports committee during 2020/2021; and a member of MARQUES’ unfair competition committee.
Recently, he founded with other Portuguese-speaking lawyers the International Association of Young Portuguese Language Lawyers.
