Damilola Odetola is an associate in the financial restructuring group, with experience in working for noteholders, creditor committees, sponsors and other parties on cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters.
Recent matters include acting for: an ad hoc group of secured lenders in the restructuring of Nordic Aviation Capital Designed Activity Company and its subsidiaries; a creditor group in the restructuring of the Britax Group, which resulted in the transfer of the majority stake to the lenders; and the creditor committee in the complex restructuring of Nyrstar implemented through an English scheme of arrangement. Having previously qualified to practice in Nigeria, Damilola previously worked in a leading commercial law firm in Lagos, Nigeria where she advised creditors in connection with the financing of the power sector privatisation projects in Nigeria; and advised on the restructuring of companies in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. Damilola has a keen interest in emerging markets and her doctorate aimed to introduce an African perspective to the debates on cross-border insolvency and restructuring frameworks. She regularly contributes to discussions on global developments in restructuring and insolvency and her paper on the African experience in the insolvency law globalisation trend recently won the prestigious International Insolvency Institute prize in insolvency studies.
