João Lima Cluny joined Morais Leitão in 2007. He is a member of the firm’s criminal and compliance team. His practice focuses on assisting clients in the context of criminal and regulatory offences, particularly in the financial and economic sphere. João has been involved in high-profile litigation cases in Portugal and has extensive trial experience, especially regarding corporate liability.
In recent years, João has worked extensively on compliance-related matters (regarding the prevention of corruption and money laundering), internal investigations and regulatory enforcement in different areas, such as the sports, energy, competition, environment, banking, capital markets, labour, tax and media sectors.
He is also a member of the arbitration, sport and entertainment, and infrastructure teams.
He is a member of the first instance club-licensing body for the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) at UEFA competition level and a member of the certification jury for the recognition, validation and certification of the professional competence of football coaches, nominated by the FPF.
João Lima Cluny is an arbitrator and mediator of the Portuguese Court of Arbitration for Sports.
João Lima Cluny is also an academic with a master’s degree in forensic sciences from the Nova School of Law, where, since 2014, he has taught as a guest professor in interdisciplinary legal practice. He regularly participates in seminars and conferences, predominantly on criminal law and criminal procedure, arbitration and sports law, and he is an author and co-author of articles on these subjects.
