José Alberto Campos-Vargas is a partner at the Mexico City office dealing with corporate governance and regulatory compliance (including health, food and beverages, and cosmetics).
He obtained his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in 2000. He is fluent in Spanish and English. He has extensive experience in advising national and international clients in all processes related to their operations in regulated industries, including the establishment of operations in Mexico and processes related to day-to-day business operations (acquisition of registrations, permits and certificates; importing, exporting, manufacturing, advertising, transporting and selling products).
He has extensive administrative litigation experience focused on administrative disputes arising from the foregoing activities and has broad experience in international trade and customs matters.
Mr Campos-Vargas has advised clients on matters related to free trade agreements entered into by Mexico, import duties and operation of export development programmes, customs and non-customs requirements applicable to the import of all kinds of equipment and merchandise, and international trade aspects relating to mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and privatisations.
He has represented national and foreign clients in customs and international trade administrative proceedings and litigation, as well as in negotiations with government authorities, sanitary law, food, beverages, medicines and medical devices, cosmetic perfume and beauty products, and tobacco product provisions.
