Owen Hayford is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading infrastructure and construction lawyers. He is the founding principal of Infralegal, where he specialises in providing strategic legal and commercial advice on major projects.

After 25 years at leading Australian and international legal and professional services firms, Owen has graduated from the Big Firm model and developed a new business model that enables clients to more effectively access his strategic advice on the structuring, procurement, negotiation and contract management of complex projects, including dispute avoidance and resolution strategies.

His clients include the full gamut of project participants, including governments, sponsors, contractors, operators, financiers, investors and consultants on many of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects. His experience extends across a range of sectors, including transport, energy, resources, water, defence and social infrastructure.

Owen is experienced in all forms of contracting including traditional, collaborative and relationship-based contracting (alliancing, integrated project delivery, delivery partner model, managing contractor, etc.), operating franchises, facilities maintenance contracts and public-private partnerships.

Owen is a senior fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he teaches a course on public-private partnerships as part of the Master of Laws programme. He is also a council member of the Australia branch of IPFA, a member of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation and a past chair of Thought Leadership at the Society of Construction Law Australia.
