Rebecca Smith is a senior lawyer in Gilbert + Tobin’s intellectual property group. Rebecca practises at the cutting edge of intellectual property litigation and commercial IP, with particular expertise in trademark disputes, brand protection and anti-counterfeiting, copyright matters for the entertainment industry, commercialisation of new technologies, global brands transactions, and the intersection between intellectual property and international law. She also has significant commercial IP expertise, including advising on substantial international brand transactions and on joint ventures relating to the commercialisation of new technologies, such as blockchain and quantum computing.

Rebecca co-developed and co-lectures on the ‘Intellectual Property & Tech Commercialisation: Strategic Management of the Lifecycle of Innovation’ master’s course at the University of New South Wales.

Rebecca is admitted to practise as a lawyer in England and Wales, as well as in New South Wales, having worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and Paris and on secondment at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe prior to joining Gilbert + Tobin.

Rebecca is a management committee member of the Copyright Society of Australia and a member of the Communications and Media Law Association (CAMLA) and the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand.
