Robert Ashworth is Freshfields’ global co-head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and prior to that was Asia managing partner of the firm for seven years.
He specialises in all forms of M&A and private equity work and is known for board-level advice on corporate finance and governance matters. He has more than 29 years’ experience in Asia and during that time has led on many of the region’s most high-profile transactions, including ones in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
He has gained a reputation, in particular in tech, on which he advises PayPal, Apple, Uber and the CK Hutchison Group, and represents global financial institutions such as Prudential, SunLife and ScotiaBank.
Robert has received numerous legal accolades and awards throughout his career, including Dealmaker of the Year (2012 and 2014), Managing Partner of the Year (2012), International Law Firm Leader of the Year (2016), Asia Legal Awards International M&A Lawyer of the Year (2018, IFLR Asia Best Lawyers (2020) and Asia’s Top 15 M&A lawyers (2021).
