Robert is Freshfields' global co-head of M&A and prior to that was Asia managing partner of the firm for seven years.

He specialises in all forms of M&A and private equity work and is known for board level advice on corporate finance and governance matters. He has over 25 years experience in Asia and during that time has led on many of the region’s most high profile transactions.

His recent work includes advising PayPal on its acquisition of a 70 per cent stake in GoPay, making PayPal the first foreign licensed online payments platform in China, Scotiabank on the disposal of its entire 49 per cent stake in TBank in a cash and shares deal as part of the merger between TBank and TMB Bank, Starbucks on its US$1.3bn buy-out of of its East China business, Hutchison on its US$1.86 billion sale of its fixed-line telecommunications business, Prudential/Eastspring on its acquisition of a controlling stake in TMB Asset Management and InterContinental Hotels on its acquisition of Regent Hotels and Resorts.

Robert has won numerous legal accolades and awards throughout his career, including International Law Firm Leader of the Year, International M&A Lawyer of the Year, Dealmaker of the Year twice at the ALB Hong Kong Law Awards.
