Shiraz Sethi is the regional head of employment in the Middle East. Ranked in Chambers and Partners and recognised for leading the firm into The Legal 500 directory, Shiraz is highly rated for his contentious and non-contentious employment work, and advises multinationals and local companies on all aspects of UAE labour law and DIFC/ADGM employment law issues. From a non-contentious perspective, he regularly advises on offer letters, employment, consultancy and secondment contracts; provides advice on immigration and visa requirements, medicals and certification of documents; and frequently reviews employee handbooks and company policies to ensure they are updated and in accordance with local legislation. The majority of Shiraz’s practice revolves around the contentious aspects of employment and consequently he regularly advises on terminations and the visa cancellation process, and specialises in running complex disciplinary procedures from commencement through to completion. He is also an expert when dealing with team moves and advice on restrictive covenants and their enforceability. Shiraz has been instrumental in the development of key legislation regarding UAE labour laws, including drafting the commentary of the DIFC Employment Law, amendments to the DIFC and ADGM employment laws, and drafting the DMCC covid-19 guidelines. He was also appointed to the working committee to draft the DIFC Presidential Directive.

Shiraz is one of the region’s foremost thought leaders on employment law, appearing on various media platforms, including Dubai One, CNBC News and Dubai Eye radio, contributing to news outlets such as Gulf News, The National and Khaleej Times, and authoring articles for Lexis Nexis Middle East, The Oath and Thomson Reuters.
