Simon Planzer is partner at the firm, admitted to practise in Swiss and EU/EEA courts and has specialised in EU/EEA and Swiss gaming law for approximately 15 years. Through his legal practice, publications, teaching and work with regulators and the media, he has substantially contributed to the cause of empirical-based and sound gaming regulation. He has been recognised by the gaming industry, colleagues and regulators as ‘absolutely excellent’, ‘very well-connected’ and ‘the top Swiss lawyer’ for gaming (Chambers and Partners).
Dr Planzer wrote his PhD on EU/EEA gaming regulation (titled ‘Empirical Views on European Gambling Law and Addiction’). He has published extensively on gaming matters, for example, ‘Gambling Law’ for The Handbook of EEA Law (book chapter, Springer) and most recently ‘A Gambling Lawyer’s Perspective on Responsible Gambling’ (book chapter, Oxford). Dr Planzer is a member of IAGA and IMGL and has been invited repeatedly by both IAGR and GREF to present to regulators. He did studies and research, inter alia, at the College of Europe, Harvard University and the European University Institute. Dr Planzer also serves as lecturer in law and director of the Competence Center on Gaming & Entertainment at the University of St Gallen (CH).
