Tara Lee is one of the leading investigations and litigation attorneys in the United States. In 2017, she was named the US Trial Lawyer of the Year by Benchmark Litigation, making her the first woman ever to receive that distinction.
She has significant experience in the sports industry, and is especially adept at managing major investigations involving high-profile athlete or front office misconduct, balancing advocacy in defence of an organisation with communications messaging and maintaining stakeholder support. She recently led a toxic culture investigation for an NFL team, handled litigation involving defamation and anticompetition claims on behalf of the owner of tennis’s Madrid Open, and led a team investigating and responding to ESPN coverage of 45 former student athletes’ claims of sexual assault at a major university. She has also recently advised and defended sports industry clients on covid-related claims and risk mitigation, defamation and free speech/first amendment claims, and in connection with analysing public speech restrictions at venues and stadiums. She is a sought-after spokesperson with experience handling media in coordination with public relations firms or in lieu of hiring outside consultants.
Prior to joining White & Case, at Quinn Emanuel, Tara headed the National Trial Practice, and previous to that she co-headed DLA-Piper’s Global Investigations Practice with Senator George Mitchell. She is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, and while practising as a US Navy prosecutor, was nominated for ABA Military Lawyer of the Year.
