Tudor Velea regularly represents financial institutions, sponsors and corporate clients in a variety of private equity and venture capital investments. He specialises in advising financial institutions – including banks, investment firms, private equity and venture capital fund managers – on legal and financial regulatory aspects of their business and transactions, and he has a particular interest in artificial intelligence, smart contracts and DLT uses in financial markets. Tudor co-heads the firm’s fintech and digital currency and blockchain technology practice, with a particular emphasis on private equity and complex transactions in the technology sector. He regularly advises fintech, blockchain and digital asset companies, investors and network participants with respect to digital asset transactions, blockchain technology matters and corporate and securities law. Tudor advises companies through every stage of the corporate life cycle – from initial formation and financing through to successful initial public offering or acquisition.
Prior to co-founding the firm, Tudor began his career in the investment management group at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York, and was a senior associate at White & Case in Miami, and at Dentons in Bucharest. Tudor received his DEA cum laude from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1999 and his JD from Columbia University School of Law in New York in 2002, where he was the managing editor for the Columbia Journal of European Law. Tudor was admitted to the Bar in New York in 2002 and in Bucharest in 2008, and he speaks fluent English, French and Romanian.
