Since its establishment in 1990, TMI has elaborated a law firm that is distinct from any other in Japan and to recast the image of both lawyers and patent/trademark attorneys. During the past 28 years, the firm has experienced rapid organic growth, both numerically and geographically, while maintaining its progressive culture. Starting with 43 personnel, including 10 lawyers and two patent attorneys, TMI now has 426 lawyers and 80 patent/trademark attorneys among a total of 866 personnel as of 1 July 2018, and it has become one of the five largest law firms in Japan. In terms of geographical expansion, in addition to TMI’s domestic branch offices in Nagoya, Kobe and Osaka, the firm has branch offices overseas, in Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Yangon, Phnom Penh, Silicon Valley and London. TMI provides a wide range of global legal services through its Chinese Practice Group, French Practice Group and Indian Practice Group located in its Tokyo office and its joint venture relationships in Japan with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius (US) and Arquis Foreign Law Office (Germany).
