Seyi Akinwunmi was called to the Nigerian Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1985. He is the managing partner of the law firm of Akinwunmi & Busari. He has over 28 years of experience as a legal practitioner and insolvency consultant, and has over the years acquired skills and expertise in the prosecution of civil and commercial matters in the various courts of law in Nigeria.

Mr Akinwunmi’s area of specialisation encompasses insolvency, secured credit transactions, debt and corporate recovery. He has at various times acted as receiver or manager of insolvent companies and legal adviser to consortia of lenders and insolvency practitioners. He has played lead roles in negotiations between banks and defaulting borrowers. He has also been involved in various significant domestic reorganisations, financial crime recoveries, syndicated loan transactions and recoveries, as well as complex corporate insolvency litigation matters. He is currently acting as liquidator in one of the largest private company cross-border liquidations in Nigeria. Mr Akinwunmi is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Insol International. He is a past president of BRIPAN. He is also a consultant to the World Bank, a member of the Insolvency and Creditors Committee of the International Bar Association, a member of the Insolvency Africa Roundtable hosted by Insol International with the International Monetary Fund, the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank, UNCITRAL and other international bodies as partners. An ardent football fan, he is the current chairperson of the Lagos State Football Association in Nigeria and 1st Vice President of the Nigerian Football Federation.
